Smooth Vinyl is the cleanest look, a plain black sheet that reads as a floor protector rather than industrial matting, and it suits offices, showroom aisles, and corridors where the floor is on display. Wide Rib in gray softens the industrial read while keeping traction, which works in a retail stockroom or a hospital service hall. Nickel Vinyl's low coin texture is the most finished-looking of the cushioned runners and sits nearly flush.
The corrugated, pyramid, and diamond-plate runners belong on working floors; they look like equipment, which is right in a plant and wrong in a lobby. Keep those behind the door.
What colors do vinyl runners come in, and what does the safety-striped version look like?

Black is the standard across the page, and it is the right call for shop and plant floors because it hides oil and scuffs between cleanings. Two runners also come in gray: Wide Rib and Diamond Plate. Gray reads lighter and cleaner in a corridor or stockroom and shows tracked-in grit sooner, which some facilities want as a cue to sweep.
Diamond Plate also comes with a bright yellow safety border along each edge. Down a plant aisle it marks the pedestrian lane the way a painted line would, except the line is molded into the runner and does not wear off. From a forklift seat it is the most visible runner on the page.
Can I get a vinyl runner in a custom width or length?

Stock widths already run from 24 inches to 72 inches, and rolls from 60 to 150 feet, so most lanes are covered by cutting a stock roll to length on site. Smooth Vinyl is offered in custom lengths and widths for a floor that stock rolls do not fit, and the roll-runner family behind most of this page produces custom widths and lengths on request for OEM and fitted installations.
Note that several runners ship as full rolls only; a custom-cut length is a different order from a stock roll. Measure the lane, then call with the width, the length, and the surface you want and we will tell you whether it is a stock roll cut on site or a custom run.
