Horse Trailer Ramp Mat

Description

The Horse Trailer Ramp Mat covers the loading ramp — the spot where a horse is most likely to slip. It gives the horse a steady, grippy surface to step on while entering and leaving the trailer. Unlike a flat floor mat, it's shaped to fit the ramp itself, and it can be custom-sized so the cover reaches the full working surface with no exposed edge to catch a hoof.

The ramp is the hardest-working part of any trailer. It takes hoof strike at different angles, often in the rain, while it flexes under the horse's weight. A regular floor mat isn't built for that — it's made for the stable surface inside the trailer. A mat shaped for the ramp keeps footing steady right at the transition, which is where a slip turns into an injury during loading or unloading.

Ramp sizes vary a lot between trailer makes, so this mat is built to match. It comes in two stock sizes — 7.5' x 8.13' and 7.5' x 9.19' — and can be custom-cut to fit ramps that fall outside those. The goal is full coverage of the surface the horse actually steps on, with no short edge or overhang. It's part of our horse trailer floor mats range.

The mat is solid rubber, so it gives underfoot without turning slick. Keep it working by sweeping off debris, rinsing it down, and letting it dry between trips. Check the edges now and then for curling or wear, and replace the mat once the surface has worn enough to lose its grip. On a ramp, traction is a safety feature, not a finish detail.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why use a dedicated ramp mat instead of running floor matting onto the ramp?

Answered by Dustin Thompson, Owner & CEO

The ramp takes more wear and more slip risk than anywhere else on the trailer — hoof strike at odd angles, often wet, on a surface that flexes. Floor mats are made for the steady floor inside, not for that. A ramp-specific mat keeps grip right at the loading transition, where most loading slips happen. Matching the mat to the zone is what keeps the step on and off safe.

How do I clean and maintain the ramp mat?

Answered by Dustin Thompson, Owner & CEO

Sweep off shavings, manure, and grit, then rinse the mat and let it dry between trips so debris doesn't grind into the surface. Every so often, check the edges for curling or wear. Replace the mat once the surface has worn down enough to lose traction — on a ramp, a worn, slick surface is a safety problem, not just a cosmetic one.

Can the ramp mat be made to fit my ramp?

Answered by Jinna Hopson, Vice President of Marketing

Yes. It comes in two stock sizes, 7.5' x 8.13' and 7.5' x 9.19', and can be custom-cut for ramps that don't match those. Because ramp dimensions vary so much between trailer makes and models, custom sizing is often the better route. The aim is to cover the full surface the horse steps on, with no short edge or overhang to catch a hoof.

How do I know which size I need?

Answered by Jinna Hopson, Vice President of Marketing

Measure your ramp's length and width at the widest points and send us those numbers. We'll size the mat to cover the working surface the horse actually uses, edge to edge. If your ramp is an unusual shape, tell us that too — getting full coverage right is what prevents a hoof from catching a gap or a lip at the edge.
