Description

The Script Name mat is a last name doormat that keeps it simple: your name in a large, flowing script, framed by a wide border. It is made to order on a synthetic coir mat that has the look of natural coir without the shedding, and you see your name in the preview before you buy.

What Script Name Says at Your Door

Some front doors don't need a slogan. Script Name puts your surname in formal script, the kind you would see on a wedding invitation or engraved stationery, and lets it carry the whole mat. It says who lives here, and it says it quietly.

It suits homes with a clean, modern or traditional look where a busy design would feel out of place. It is also a natural pick for anyone who wants a door mat with their last name that feels elegant and personal.

How the Design Works

A wide band of the accent color runs around the outer edge of the mat. Inside it, the field is plain. Your name sits in the center in a large formal script, the only text on the mat. That open space around the name is what gives the design its calm look.

You fill in one box: your family name, up to 12 characters. The script shrinks to fit the space, so a short name like "Cole" fills the mat while a 12-letter name sits smaller. Script reads best when it is large, so if your name is long, try a shorter form in the preview and compare the two.

The four colorways are a black mat with natural-colored lettering and border, a natural mat with black lettering and border, a black mat with grey, and a grey mat with black. The border and the name always share one color.

Where It Fits (and Where It Doesn't)

Script Name works best at a front door where people walk right up to the mat: a porch, a stoop, an apartment or condo door, or a covered entry. Up close, the flowing letters read clearly and look their best.

It is not the right mat if you need people to read it from the street, or if your name is long and you want a small mat. Fine script needs room to stay clear. Script Name is part of our personalized coir door mats, all made to order with your name.

Three Things to Check Before You Order

First, check the spelling and the length. Count the letters, because the box holds 12 characters. Then read the name in the preview one letter at a time. Script letters can make a typo harder to spot, and the mat is made to order, so what you approve is what we make.

Second, match the size to the name and the door. A short surname looks great on a 2' x 3' at a single door. A name of eight letters or more, or a wide double door, reads better on a 3' x 5' or 4' x 6', where the script has room to stay large.

Third, pick a colorway with strong contrast. Script has fine, flowing strokes, so contrast does a lot of the work. Natural lettering on black and black lettering on natural are the easiest to read. The grey options are softer and suit modern homes with grey or dark trim.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size Script Name mat should I get?

Answered by Jinna Hopson, Vice President of Marketing

Start with the width of your door. For a single front door, a 2' x 3' or 3' x 4' sits in proportion. For double doors or a wide stoop, a 3' x 5' or 4' x 6' keeps the mat from looking lost.

Then think about your name. Script reads best when it is large, so if your surname runs past seven or eight letters, size up one step. The preview shows your exact name on each size.

How does a long last name look in script?

Answered by Jinna Hopson, Vice President of Marketing

Names up to 12 characters fit, and the script shrinks to fill the space. A long name in script gets smaller and the strokes get thinner, so it reads best up close.

For a long surname, choose a 3' x 5' or 4' x 6' so the letters stay large. You can also type a shorter version in the preview, such as one half of a hyphenated name, and compare.

Which colorway makes a script name easiest to read?

Answered by Jinna Hopson, Vice President of Marketing

The strongest contrast reads best. Natural lettering on a black mat and black lettering on a natural mat are the clearest choices for script.

The grey colorways look softer and work well with modern homes, but the lower contrast makes fine script a little quieter. Try each colorway in the preview with your name before you decide.

Can I order Script Name as a gift?

Answered by Jinna Hopson, Vice President of Marketing

Yes. Its simple look makes it an easy gift for a new home or a couple sharing a new surname. Shipping is free and it typically ships in about 10 days.

Because the mat carries a name, it can't be returned or exchanged. Confirm the exact spelling of the surname before you order, especially for a couple who has recently changed names.

How do I keep a coir door mat clean?

Answered by Dustin Thompson, Owner & CEO

Vacuum it regularly with a motor-driven brush and beater bar. That can remove up to 80% of surface dirt, and dirt left in the fibers is what dulls the colors over time. At a busy front door, vacuum or shake it out a few times a week.

Keeping it clean also protects your warranty. The 1-year limited (Mats Inc.) warranty covers mats that are maintained this way.

Will it stay in place on a wet porch?

Answered by Dustin Thompson, Owner & CEO

The mat has a non-skid primary backing and an anti-skid secondary backing, which help it grip the surface underneath. The fibers also dry quickly compared to natural coco mats, so it doesn't stay soaked after rain.

After a heavy storm, lift the mat and let the porch and the backing dry before setting it back down. That keeps water from sitting underneath.
