Description

Design Links is a modular walk-off matting system for high-traffic commercial entrances — the kind of doorway where a single mat won't cover the span and the entrance is part of how the space presents itself. Its open-weave grid surface scrapes shoes on every step while built-in carpet strips dry them, and the interlocking panels lock together to fit an entry of almost any size or shape.

The surface does two jobs at once. The grid ribs scrape grit off shoe bottoms, while alternating carpet strips wick moisture so shoes leave the mat drier than they arrived. The open weave lets the dirt and water it pulls off drop below the walking surface, out of the traffic path, instead of tracking back onto shoes. ISSA field data shows the bulk of a building's dirt arrives on shoes at the entrance, which is exactly what a scrape-and-dry system is built to stop.

Because it's modular, Design Links adapts to the space rather than the other way around. Panels are built in two-foot increments and can be cut and combined to any width or length, so wide entries, irregular footprints, and long approaches are all workable. It installs loose-laid with vinyl edge ramps, surface-mounted, or recessed flush into the floor and trimmed with anodized aluminum — the recessed option sits level with the surrounding flooring, so there's no lip to trip on.

It's rated for heavy foot, cart, and pallet-jack traffic, stays slip-resistant wet or dry, and carries LEED credit eligibility and ADA compliance for projects that need them. Standard colors are black, brown, and gray, with custom base colors available, and the carpet inserts come in tones like charcoal, gingerbread, and emerald. It works indoors or out, which is why it sits among the outdoor entrance mats as readily as at an interior lobby.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does Design Links install — can it go flush into the floor?

Answered by Dustin Thompson, Owner & CEO

Three ways, depending on the space. It can be loose-laid on top of the floor with attached vinyl ramps that ease the edges, surface-mounted in place, or recessed into a depression so the mat sits flush with the surrounding surface. The recessed option is the cleanest — finished with anodized aluminum trim, it integrates flush with no lip at the edge, which removes a trip point and looks built-in rather than dropped on. Panels cut and fit on-site.

Can Design Links handle carts and heavy traffic, and how long does it last?

Answered by Dustin Thompson, Owner & CEO

Yes — it's built for heavy foot, cart, and pallet-jack traffic, so it holds up at busy retail, healthcare, and institutional entrances where lighter mats break down. The surface stays slip-resistant wet or dry, measured well above the slip-resistant threshold under ASTM testing. It's backed by a three-year warranty and made in the USA. As with any walk-off system, lifting it periodically to clear the debris collected beneath the surface is what keeps it performing and extends its service life.

Can Design Links be made to fit an odd-shaped or oversized entry?

Answered by Jinna Hopson, Vice President of Marketing

That's the point of the modular design. Panels are manufactured in two-foot increments and lock together, and they can be cut and combined to reach any width or length — so wide double-door entries, long approaches, and irregular or oversized footprints are all workable. Individual panels can be sized to hit the overall dimensions exactly. Send the area's measurements and shape and we'll lay out a configuration that covers it without awkward gaps or partial pieces at the edges.

What are the color and finish options?

Answered by Jinna Hopson, Vice President of Marketing

More than most entrance systems. Standard base colors are black, brown, and gray, with custom base colors available for a specific palette. The carpet-strip inserts come in tones like charcoal, gingerbread, and emerald, and if you're recessing the mat, the aluminum trim is offered in clear, black, bronze, and gold anodized finishes. That range lets the entrance read as a designed part of the space rather than a utility mat — which is usually why a building specifies this system over a plain walk-off mat.
